The Players Championship Shuttle to TPC Sawgrass

The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass is one of the busiest weeks of our entire calendar. Tournament week pulls roughly 200,000 fans over four days, and the only realistic way onto the course is a shuttle from an authorized lot or a chartered coach with the right credentials. We’ve been running corporate hospitality and fan-group shuttles to TPC Sawgrass for years. The route is simple. The logistics are not.

Why The Players Is Harder to Plan Than a Regular Saturday

When clients ask about a bus rental for sports team trips to TPC Sawgrass during The Players Championship, the conversation always starts with parking and pickup windows.

The Players is the PGA Tour’s flagship event. There is no public parking on the course. The Tour runs $20 hotel shuttles Thursday through Sunday from a small set of downtown Jacksonville hotels and a handful of local Nocatee lots, and they fill fast in the morning rush. For an individual fan that works. For a corporate hospitality group of 20-50 trying to arrive together, eat together, and leave together, the public shuttle becomes a bottleneck the host did not plan for.

A chartered coach with a credentialed motorcoach permit pulls into the designated TPC drop, the group walks in together through the correct gate for their hospitality venue, and the coach restages at the dedicated bus lot until the agreed pickup time. No 90-minute wait at the public shuttle return line on Sunday evening.

For combined Players hospitality plus a Jacksonville off-course dinner the same evening, we coordinate through our corporate transportation service so the same coach handles the round trip plus the off-property restaurant run.

Pickup Zones for Tournament Week

Knowing where your group is staying changes the timeline by 30-60 minutes per day. These are the staging zones we work most often during The Players week, with realistic drive times that account for tournament traffic on A1A and Butler Boulevard:

  • Downtown Jacksonville hotels: about 35 minutes to TPC Sawgrass via I-95 and Butler.
  • Ponte Vedra Beach hotels (Inn, Sawgrass Marriott): 10 to 15 minutes.
  • St. Augustine: about 40 minutes via A1A or I-95.
  • JAX International Airport: about 35 minutes for fly-in groups going straight to the course.
  • St. Johns Town Center hotels: about 25 minutes via Butler.

Matching the Vehicle to the Group

For Players hospitality groups, the right bus depends on whether the group is staying together throughout the day or splitting up after the morning drop. Here’s how we usually map vehicles:

  • Under 18 corporate executives: a 18-passenger minibus or executive Sprinter for a premium group ride.
  • 18-30 hospitality attendees: a 30-passenger minibus with under-bus storage for the tournament-day bag and sunscreen kit.
  • 30-50 corporate hospitality block: a 50-passenger coach with restroom and wifi-capable seats.
  • 50+ corporate or fan group: a 56-passenger coach or multiple vehicles depending on departure timing.

Sponsor groups with a long hospitality day usually prefer a single larger coach so the group can leave whenever they’re ready rather than waiting on a fleet to consolidate.

Tournament-Day Timeline

Tournament gates open early, but most spectators target morning play that wraps with the 17th-hole island green by mid-afternoon. This is the timeline we typically build for a Friday or Saturday round from a downtown hotel:

  • 7:00 AM: coach stages at the hotel
  • 7:30 AM: group boards
  • 8:00 AM: drop at the designated motorcoach gate
  • 4:00 PM: coach restages
  • 5:30 PM: return run begins as play wraps
  • 6:30 PM: group back at hotel

Sunday final round runs heavier on the back end. The Tour staggers shuttle returns from 2 PM through 6:30 PM for the public buses. Your chartered coach picks the window that fits.

Costs and Permits

A Players Championship charter typically runs $1,400 to $2,800 for a single coach across the day. Saturday and Sunday rounds run higher because demand spikes. Multi-day bookings (Thursday-Sunday) usually come in cheaper per day than rebooking a fresh coach each morning.

The motorcoach permit is handled by our team before the tournament week starts. The Tour requires advance credentialing for any bus that wants the designated drop zone rather than the public spectator gate. We handle that paperwork as part of the booking.

Booking Window and What We Need

For The Players week (typically the second full week of March), book the coach 4 to 6 months out. Our fleet for that week is usually committed by late November the year prior. Tournament weekend coaches are the most contested booking on our calendar.
